Summer of Dance in Dutch city centre ‘The Hague’

THE HAGUE, THE NETHERLANDS – This month Summerschool Den Haag is presenting the complete program for the 7th edition. With a set of courses consisting of new and upcoming names as well as a number of well known guestteachers, the school brings a fresh summer-breeze to the city centre of The Hague.

CULLBERG BALLET
Summerschool Den Haag has invited Cullberg’s rehearsal director Lisa Drake for the marvelous 2-day workshop ‘At the frontline of Modern Dance’ during which a small group of students will have the opportunity to learn Mats Ek’s ‘She Was Black’. Renowned choreographer Mats Ek created the piece for Cullberg Ballet. Being an important cultural ambassador for Sweden, Cullberg Ballet has performed in more than forty countries and presented highly acclaimed performances all over the world. Lisa Drake is rehearsal director with Cullberg Ballet since spring 2009.

Guestteachers and courses are carefully programmed by artistic director Mirella Simoncini. Inspired by the visitors in the past 6 years, Simoncini says: “the dedication and love for dance we see is incredible. Some students have to travel 3 hours every day! They are all here for the same reason, to learn and to dance. Consequently everybody in Summerschool is treated like a professional dancer; it doesn’t matter at which level you are”.

NICK CAVE and kylie minogue
For those who didn’t do any ballet training yet ‘Tell Me/Teach Me’ the Workshop for People With Zero Experience by former NDT-dancer Mabel Alter, will help students dancing a simple ballet-choreography.

Experienced students are challenged to learn parts from the romantic ballet Coppelia, during a 1-day workshop for amateur students and a 3-day intensive for young professionals by Mirella Simoncini.
Dancing on ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’ by Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue is possible with Fabienne Vegt (currently dancing with Nederlands Dans Theater II). She will teach the solo-choreography ‘Day’ recently made for her by Natalia Horecna (NDT I). And creating new material will happen during the workshop ‘More than Words’ by upcoming choreographer Irena Misirlić (Dance Works Rotterdam).

Dutch National Ballet
Balletclasses are offered in different levels of training including Basic Ballet for beginners. Among this year’s Guestteachers you will find Tamas Nagy (principal Soloist with the Dutch National Ballet), Monique Sand (teacher at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague) and Charlotte Chapellier (2nd Soloist with the Dutch National Ballet). Boys-classes are taught by Tamas Nagy and Fernando Hernando Magadan (dancer with NDT I).
Being one of Holland's most appreciated schools for the personal touch in dance training; Summerschool Den Haag is all set for pre-sale with an up to date website and having a phone-service available 7 days a week, where students might request personal guidance when choosing classes and workshops.

Summerschool Den Haag will take place from 17 July till 21 Augustus 2010. Pre-registration is possible from today at www.summerschooldenhaag.nl
