Z Space at Theater Artaud
The False and True are One
World Premiere, Performance Installation
Calling all dance fans, lit fans, gallery-goers and culture vultures! Enjoy a glass of wine
or other beverage as you wander alongside live performance; the bar and concessions
will be situated inside the theater as Liss Fain Dance's The False and True are One
transforms Z Space at Theater Artaud into four galleries of dance and, in the center,
Word for Word's Jeri Lynn Cohen performing stories of Lydia Davis.
Choreographed by Liss Fain, this immersive performance installation is experienced
directly by the audience as they move with the dancers through Matthew Antaky's
architecturally designed, gallery-like set. The commissioned sound score of Dan Wool
amplifies the sensation of passage through a world of shifting perceptions and relationships.
The dance is ongoing; as groupings of dancers perform in different ‘rooms’ within the theater,
Jeri Lynn Cohen performs the words of Lydia Davis from a unifying location at the center
point of the space. There is no set order to the piece— whatever route an audience member
takes in traveling through the set determines the dance that he or she sees. The individualized
order in which the audience sees the dance heightens the ephemeral and arbitrary aspects of
thought and perception.
Liss Fain Dance is delighted to be working with Jeri Lynn Cohen, a Charter Member of
Word for Word Performing Arts Company, where she has originated roles in over a dozen of
their productions including the recent critically acclaimed production of "Olive Kitteridge".
Liss Fain Dance's June performances at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts brought enthusiastic
reviews. Don't miss this exciting new work that already has people talking.
